Mouthsaic drawings
2018, Drawing Series
Mouthsaic is a graphic installation composed of 16 drawings created with mixed techniques, including digital print, watercolor, pastel, graphite, among others.
Through metaphorical obstacles, the series makes visible the difficulty of communicating in a foreign language, shaped by multiple causes such as shyness, accent, or dialect—often perceived with prejudice.
Each piece condenses that friction, where sound does not reach, a phrase stumbles, or a gesture, though clear, fails to be understood.
The drawings are in dialogue with the interactive installation of the same name, where different technologies propose an empathetic experience. The audience lends its voice and image, completing the work and inhabiting, for a moment, the position of the foreigner. In that situation, the frustration of wanting to speak but being unable to do so becomes a personal experience.
The series invites reflection on the “other”: how we perceive them, how we accept them, and which barriers we activate without even realizing it.
Technique and format: mixed media (digital print, watercolor, pastel, graphite, etc.).
Dimensions (each drawing): approx. 21 × 29 cm.
Exhibitions: Set Espai d’Art Gallery, Valencia (2018).
