Exiles. Between escape and origin
Series of drawings, video art, artistic project 2009
The plastic research focuses on the displaced subject, questioning the relationship between intimate experience and the collective history that contains it. It draws the metaphor of the almost alienated passerby, lost and exiled from reality, who, in her ceaseless search, shapes her identity while dragging her own memory through recollections and ancient inherited legends.
An extraterritorial universe rises, where identity seems to dissolve within a fluid, strange, impermanent space. The body disintegrates into a “nomadic” metaphor represented through the presence of birds—the eternal travelers, the “homeless inhabitants” of the city. This “floating symbolism” is an allusion to exile, a reflection on the notions of the “self” and the “non-self,” experienced through helplessness and loss of meaning, within a social conflict deeply characteristic of the contemporary context. Thus, a narrative of a wandering personality and deterritorialization takes shape—a dreamlike landscape in which nakedness and strangeness deny fixed identities and propose an atemporal, almost ghostly human figure.
This poetics of estrangement, common both to migrants and to those who, even while rooted, live in restlessness, articulates an inquiry into memory, uprooting, and transit—a private cosmology of identity in motion.
